200 oak trees have been distributed to communities across East Suffolk to plant in commemoration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.
The trees have been donated to every town and parish council in the district as a way of marking the Platinum Jubilee while also helping to tackle climate change and promoting environmentally sustainable communities.
Our Councillors have continued leading the charge by working closely with Town, Parish Councils, and volunteers to plant the trees. Earlier this month, Cllr Linda Coulam, Cllr Mary Rudd, and the volunteers behind the Gunton Woodland Community Project (GWCP) met to plant the oak trees Gunton Woods, Lowestoft.
Cllrs Coulam and Rudd have previously worked with David Briggs (Chair of the GWCP). In 2020, the councillors donated money from their Enabling Communities Budgets to help with the replacement of the boardwalk in parts of the woods. This part of the project was completed earlier this year.
Cllr Coulam said:
“The volunteers have done a magnificent job over the years to give the people of Lowestoft a lovely place to walk their dogs. Special thanks to David Briggs and his team - the wonderful volunteers who keep Gunton Woods a beautiful and peaceful place to walk.”
