East Suffolk Conservatives are delighted to welcome back Letitia Smith following her win on Thursday, 4 July at the Calton Colville by-election.
Although much realignment of elected parties to Westminster took place over the general election, the Conservatives are still a party that is alive and well at a local level.
East Suffolk Conservatives are known to deliver strong locally focused policies. After 4 years of running the district, they are a trusted pair of hands that listen to their communities and actively work to deliver for the people of East Suffolk. This is clearly illustrated by the strong and decisive win of Letitia Smith.
As the previous Cabinet Member for Communities Tourism and Leisure, Cllr Smith is a welcome addition to the Conservative group. She comes with a strong record of delivering many community projects along with East Suffolk’s flagship policy of Community Partnerships - a cross party multi stakeholder initiative that empowers local communities to understand their issues and deliver solutions.
Cllr Mallinder, spokesperson for the East Suffolk Conservatives stated ‘We are all extremely delighted to welcome Letitia Smith back to East Suffolk. She has a depth of knowledge and understanding from her position in the previous administration and will assist the group in fighting for what’s right for East Suffolk as well as holding the current GLI administration to account‘
Cllr Smith added ‘I am incredibly honoured to be re-elected as an East Suffolk Councillor and I’m looking forward to working with a number of my previous colleagues to deliver Conservative policies along with representing my communities. Much needs to be done to build the vision of environmentally sustainable towns and villages and I will be working hard to deliver just that.
‘Local residents know that for representation and community led policies they need to turn to the Conservatives and my win clearly illustrates locally we are the solution to many local issues. ‘
Cllr Mallinder added ‘Although locally we have had a change in MPs, this by-election result clearly shows that the Conservatives are not wiped out and the local party will be working hard to build support from residents and providing solutions to our problems. I suggest the new local Labour MPs are just keeping the seat warm until the next general election when the Conservatives will win the seats back. ‘
